Breast Reduction or Reduction Mammaplasty

Breast reduction or Reduction Mammaplasty from Plastic Surgery Seattle is a procedure that provides much needed relief to women with breasts that are uncomfortable and hindering due to an excess of breast tissue. Women with unusually large breasts may choose breast reduction as a way to minimize the back and neck pain that results from carrying around the extra weight. Breast reduction surgery is a successful method of achieving more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing breasts.

During a breast reduction procedure, Dr. Gottlieb will reduce breast size by removing fatty tissue, excess skin and glandular tissue. The removal of this excess weight can also help breasts become firmer and reduce sagging. The nipple may also be raised or relocated during the procedure.

Following breast reduction at Plastic Surgery Seattle, Dr. Gottlieb will apply dressings and tape over incisions for proper healing. Patients will require pain medication for 1 -2 weeks and may experience temporary swelling and bruising that should subside in 2 - 3 weeks. Dr. Gottlieb will remove sutures in 1 week. We recommend patients wait 3 -4 weeks before exercising. Most breast reduction patients can return to work in 2 weeks. The final results of breast reduction are apparent within approximately 6 months.

Patients who choose breast reduction should not expect to breast feed in the future. Remember, everyone heals at their own pace. Dr. Gottlieb will discuss the details and risks of breast reduction surgery with you during your confidential breast reduction consultation.
