That Ugly Belly Button — What To Do?
November 30th, 2012
Easy Surgical Fix for the Ugly Belly Button
For many people, their belly button can be the only thing that deters them from ever showing their stomach in public. Everyone is born with one, but for some it can be a piece of their body they are less thrilled with. The descriptions of innie, outie or inbetweenie are common terms people use to describe this portion of their body. Unfortunately, for those who have protruding, or hood covering belly buttons, it can be an embarrassing ordeal.
Fortunately, there is a solution to the Ugly Belly Button Syndrome called an umbilicoplasty. This is a relatively simple plastic surgery procedure that modifies and fixes these conditions of the belly button area. It may be performed as part of a tummy tuck, or with a lower body lift, or may be performed individually.
In most cases the procedure is pretty straight forward. The extra skin is excised and shaped around the navel to create a new appearance. The procedure may last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour but rarely more than that. Local anesthesia is provided with a mild sedative. However, if combined with a tummy tuck or other major procedure, general anesthesia is used.
The Science Behind Anti-Aging Cosmetics

Do Anti-Aging Products Really Work?
Anti-Aging cosmeceuticals are a multi-billion dollar industry. However, the question remains do they actually work? There is often a lot of skepticism about the efficacy of anti-aging cosmeceuticals, and for the consumer trying to eliminate the marketing from the realities, it is a major hurdle to try to jump over.
A recent team of researchers from the University of California at Davis have concluded that the key ingredient for most reputable anti-aging products is alpha hydroxyl acids or AHAs. This ingredient is found in most wrinkle reducing creams and cosmetic chemical peels.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids are a group of week acids that typically originate from natural sources found in sugar cane, soured milk, and some fruit. Research suggests that these are known for their benefits to the appearance of the skin. Prior to this study, little was known about how alpha hydroxy acids actually caused the skin to shed dead cells and expose fresh underlying dermas.
So the verdict is in: Many if not most anti-aging cosmeceuticals products that contain AHAs do work as intended, however, they will not completely reverse the long-term affects of aging.
New Saline Breast Implant Offers Promise

New Saline Implant Feels More Like a Real Breast
A newly designed saline breast implant offers women another option for breast augmentation. Saline implants are primarily constructed of a thin silicone shell filled with a saline solution amounting to nothing more than a implantable water balloon. Unfortunately, these saline implants lacked the ability to retain a firm breast shape, showing rippling effects when laying down and increase the chances of ptosis as a result of the extra weight.
The new double-lumen saline implant is a breakthrough design by providing internal baffles which help suspend the implant giving a more natural look and feel. Studies have also shown other benefits to these implants including reduced capsular contraction compared to single lumen filled saline implants, low wrinkle-ripple effect, and a higher than normal surgeon approval rating.
Ideal Implant Incorporated was founded in 2006 to develop an ideal breast implant that would combine the best of both the saline and silicone implants.
