Am I A Good Candidate for the Facelift Procedure?

At Plastic Surgery Seattle, our best facelift candidates are patients who wish to reduce sagging skin in the face and neck. Good candidates have a certain degree of elasticity left in the skin and a strong bone structure. There are some restrictions with this procedure, so please consult Dr. Gottlieb to find out if facelift is ideal for you.

Please share with Dr. Gottlieb if you have diabetes, poor circulation, heart, lung or liver disease, smoke, have a family history of blood clots, or take certain medications, as it may increase risk during the procedure.

What Happens During a Facelift Procedure?

During your facelift procedure at Plastic Surgery Seattle, Dr. Gottlieb will hide incisions in front of and behind the ears. Dr. Gottlieb will then tighten the facial skin, tighten sagging muscles, and remove excess skin folds. Sutures are strategically placed on the edges of the facial bones and along the hairline.

Your facelift will be completely customized, and Dr. Gottlieb will choose specific techniques to accommodate your unique needs. The placement of incisions, amount of skin removed, direction of stretching, and direction of incisions may vary. A central facelift is performed to target the area from the top of the cheekbones to the corners of the mouth. A face-neck lift includes the lower face and neck area. A complete facelift targets every area from the cheeks to the bottom of the neck.

You may also choose to have eyelid surgery and a brow lift at the same time for a dramatically youthful change.

How Long Does A Facelift Procedure Take?

A routine facelift generally takes from 2-4 hours, depending on the candidate.

When Can I Return to Work Following a Facelift?

At Plastic Surgery Seattle, most of our facelift patients choose to return to work 1 to 2 weeks post surgery.

How Long is the Recovery Period Following a Facelift?

Following your facelift procedure from Plastic Surgery Seattle, Dr. Gottlieb will apply facial bandages. There will be some swelling and bruising that can take 1-6 weeks to fade. Patients may experience temporary neck tension, swelling in the eye area and numbness that should subside within 10 to 14 days. Post operative patients may need to use pain medication for up to 3 days following surgery. Dr. Gottlieb recommends patients wait 2-3 weeks before resuming exercise routines. A bandage change is needed 1-2 days after surgery. You are advised to wear a high SPF sunscreen for at least 6 months.

Facelift results are apparent within a few months, and scars will be inconspicuous after they fade as the incisions are placed along facial creases and in the hairline. Dr. Gottlieb will discuss your expected recovery progression with you during your confidential facelift consultation. Remember, everyone heals at their own pace.

What Are the Risks Involved With a Facelift?

At Plastic Surgery Seattle, we strive daily to reduce our patients' degree of risk through updated technology, ongoing doctor and staff training, and careful adherence to safety regulations. We take every precaution necessary to make sure each patient is in a safe and sterile environment. Our patients are comforted by Dr. Gottlieb's skill, experience and professionalism and feel good about entrusting their facelift expectations to us. Dr. Gottlieb will be happy to discuss any risks involved in this procedure during your cosmetic consultation.

Although serious complications with a facelift are rare, potential risks can include abnormal facial contour, bleeding, blistering, discoloration, anesthesia reaction, facial weakness, slow healing, hematoma, infection and nerve damage.

If you are a smoker, it is strongly advised that you stop smoking as soon as possible prior to surgery in order to minimize risks.

How Much Does a Facelift Cost?

At Plastic Surgery Seattle, we believe the amazing results of a facelift performed by Dr. Gottlieb are well worth the investment. No matter what your financial situation, we can work with you to make sure cost is not a deterrent. We offer several payment options and affordable financing through several financing companies, including Care Credit.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect From a Facelift?

After a thorough cosmetic evaluation, Dr. Gottlieb will be able to tell you whether or not you would get the results you're looking for from a facelift. Because each person's face is unique, no two facelifts will yield the same results. However, based on previous experience with similar facial types and characteristics, Dr. Gottlieb can give you a good idea of what to expect. When you come to us looking for a change, we take into account your health history, goals, and make sure you are well informed about the risks and benefits of a facelift. We strive to make sure our patients have realistic expectations about the procedure while doing all we can to meet their facial rejuvenation needs.
